Who we are

George Town Art and Artisans Guild Inc is a non-profit organisation and runs a gallery-store on the main street of George Town, Tasmania. The store was initially established with the help of a grant from Tasmanian Government and has been operating since June 2023. The store/guild became incorporated in mid-2024 and has been operating as an independent organisation since that time.

This Art and Artisans store is unique, as it sells only works created by artists and artisans from the municipality.

The products range from paper craft, to fine art and "everything" in between. The store stocks oil and water colour paintings, handmade quilts, handwoven shawls, leather work, wood work, books by local authors, needlecraft, photography, cards, jewellery, pottery and glassware to mention a few. The items make ideal gifts or souvenirs, as many reflect the local places.

The store, which is the only art and artisan store in George Town, is run entirely by volunteers, who are members of the guild.

Purpose

To provide

  • retail and gallery space for local creatives to showcase and sell their products
  • an opportunity for locals and visitors alike to appreciate and acquire locally created artefacts

Acknowledgement of Country

George Town Art and Artisans Guild Inc acknowledges the Palawa People from the Litarimirina tribe from Port Dalrymple as the traditional custodians of the land. We honour and give thanks for the caring of country, seas and skies of kinimathatakinta and surrounds. We pay respect to the elders past and present for they hold the memories, traditions, culture and hope of pakana people in Lutruwita.
